Erin Benjamin, DO
Board-certified and fellowship-trained in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, with an emphasis on micro-incision cataract surgery.
Dr. Erin P. Benjamin is a board-certified ophthalmologist specialising in comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on micro-incision cataract surgery. She is also fellowship-trained in paediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus — training that is not widely available in this part of South Carolina.
She has performed thousands of cataract surgeries using the latest advances in the field, and also specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and dry eye, along with many other ocular conditions.
Dr. Benjamin completed her medical training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Michigan State University at Hillsdale Community Health Center. She then completed a fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Akron Children's Hospital. As a resident she travelled to Africa and India to provide cataract and strabismus surgery to underserved populations.
In 2020 she earned fellowship with the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. She has been in private practice since 2014, most recently in Annapolis, Maryland, where she was named Southern Maryland's Best Ophthalmologist in 2022.
Dr. Benjamin is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Osteopathic Association.
Raised in South Jersey, she is glad to call the Lowcountry home with her husband and young son. Outside the office she spends her time with her family and their Cavapoo, travelling, and following every Philadelphia sports team.
