Mark Goulas

MD


Mark Goulas, MD is a board-certifed ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Goulas was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. He then pursued his dream of becoming a physician and graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit in 2000. Dr. Goulas remained in Michigan to fnish his internship at Oakwood Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed his ophthalmology training at Texas Tech University, located in Lubbock, Texas, where he developed strong clinical and surgical skills in ophthalmology that would set the foundation for the excellent surgeon he is today. He has also co- authored several research projects, ranging from lasers used in glaucoma to new surgical techniques used in pediatrics. Afer competing his training in 2004, Dr. Goulas joined a very busy ophthalmology practice in Florence, South Carolina, where he refned his talents as a physician and surgeon. Dr. Goulas then founded Low Country Eye Associates in Blufon, SC in January of 2006. Dr. Goulas’ goal is to provide unparalleled surgical eye care in the Blufon/Hilton Head area with an emphasis on cataract surgery. Dr. Goulas has successfully performed over 15,000 cataract surgeries in his career. With a commitment to quality examinations, precise measurements, and utilizing the state of the art surgical techniques and technologies, Dr. Goulas achieves excellent surgical results for his patients. Dr. Goulas is also an expert at diagnosing and treating glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and many other ocular diseases. Dr. Goulas is certifed by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Goulas was born to immigrant parents from Greece and is fuent in the Greek language. The only thing that can top his love for ophthalmology is his love for his family which includes his wonderful wife Mari and his three daughters, Sofia, Anastasia (Tasi), and Filia (Lia).

Erin Benjamin

DO


Dr. Erin P. Benjamin is a board-certifed ophthalmologist who specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on micro-incision cataract surgery. She is also fellowship trained in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. She has performed thousands of cataract surgeries utilizing the latest advancements in the field. Dr. Benjamin also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration and dry eyes along with many other ocular conditions. Dr. Benjamin completed her medical school training at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at Michigan State University at Hillsdale Community Health Center. Afer residency, Dr. Benjamin completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Akron Children’s Hospital. As a resident, she traveled to Africa and India to provide cataract and strabismus surgery to their underserved population. In 2020, Dr. Benjamin earned fellowship with the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. She has been in private practice since 2014, most recently in Annapolis, Maryland where she was named Southern Maryland’s Best Ophthalmologist in 2022. Dr. Benjamin is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Osteopathic Association. Raised in South Jersey, Dr. Benjamin is excited to call the Lowcountry her new home with her husband and young son. When not in the office, Dr. Benjamin enjoys spending time with her family and Cavapoo traveling. She is also an avid fan of all the Philadelphia sports teams.

James Limbert

MD


Goulas Eye welcomes James G. Limbert, MD to our team serving our patients as a general ophthalmologist, focusing mainly on comprehensive examinations, including refractions, treating patients with glaucoma, emergent eye issues, maintaining eye health for our patients with diabetes, as well as other eye health concerns. Dr. Limbert recently relocated from Ohio with his wife, Mary Ann, where he managed a solo practice performing cataract and corneal surgeries and general ophthalmic exams for 37 years. Dr. Limbert’s education includes attending University of Dayton for Pre-Med, and then obtaining his medical degree from Ohio State University. He then interned at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus as a resident for the Dept of Ophthalmology University Hospitals Case Western University. During his career, Dr. Limbert has served as Flight Surgeon USAR, as Chairman of Professional Relations Committee at Columbus Medical Academy, Director of EENT Mt. Carmel East Hospital Dept of Surgery and as Clinical Assistant Professor for Ohio State University Dept of Ophthalmology, among other distinguishing and contributory positions relating to ophthalmology.
